Hundreds of charities have begun to adopt programs car donations as a way to raise funds or to provide themselves with the vehicle at no cost to help operate their programs. However, rather than managing the car donation programs themselves, they will often turn to fund raising organizations to actually handle the donation and auctioning of the vehicles.  And that policy can mean a problem for you.

If you use Internet search on the donation program car, you’ll get hundreds of hits from a fundraiser because they will allow you to choose among a group of charities that sell your cars. Then, they will give the documents that you must claim after you donate a car as a reduction on your tax from the IRS.

Taking advice from the IRS

But the IRS itself, in recent years have become upset about the program’s contribution to car development conducted by the fund-raising.IRS recommends that when you consider a certain car donation programs, you call those who run and get a clear answer and examine if they are good officers, or private groups really acting for charities.

If you find they are a private group run the car for several charitable donations, what they intend to do with your car donation. The cars will be repaired and given to charities to the charities or fund raising through an auction of your donated car and if so, how these funds will go to the fund- raising events, and how much to percentage get by the charity?

Car donation program that  are unable or unwilling to provide clear answers to these questions are not ones where we can expect to donate a car and that could bring the money obtained to the charity program. As if the charity does not accept any car or fund, you have no right to claim the value of the car for a tax reduction.
